São Vi·cen·te  (v-st)
A city of southeast Brazil on an offshore island in the Atlantic Ocean west of Santos. Founded in 1532, it was sacked by English pirates in 1591. Population: 325,000.

Sao Vicente is a short ferry ride from Santo Antao, said to be Cape Verde's most spectacular island.
Cape Verde's general director of defence Pedro Reis told the Portuguese news agency Lusa that the Arctic Sea was 400 nautical miles north of Sao Vicente in the archipelago some 450 kilometres (280 miles) off the coast of Senegal.
