A village of northern Egypt near Cairo. It is the site of the oldest Egyptian pyramids, including the Step Pyramid built for Zoser during the III Dynasty (c. 2980-2900 b.c.).

95 Paperback DT73 Zivie, one of the world's leading scholars of Egyptology, documents the recent archaeological discoveries at the Lost Tombs of Saqqara by mating 55 color photographs from the excavations to personal anecdotes and technical highlights.
All eight sarcophagi in the storeroom are believed to hold mummies, said Abdel Hakim Karar, chief archaeologist of Saqqara but so far only three were opened.
These frequent discoveries prove that Saqqara is a virgin site of archeological history.
