Asahara, 53, whose real name is Chizuo Matsumoto, is on death row after being convicted in February 2004 of six criminal counts, including masterminding the 1995 deadly sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system.
They intended to release deadly Sarin gas in the changing rooms at the Warwickshire county cricket ground in the worst sports atrocity since the killing of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics.
Asahara was also accused of masterminding a sarin gas attack in June 1994 in the central Japanese city of Matsumoto, the murder of anti-Aum lawyer Tsutsumi Sakamoto and his family, and the killings of wayward followers and people who were helping members to leave the cult.
