Of or relating to a Persian dynasty (a.d. 224-651) and the last line of Persian kings before the Arab conquest. The Sassanian era was marked by wars against Romans, Armenians, and Huns and by the revival of Zoroastrianism and Achaemenid custom.

Of particular interest in this collection are the many examples of shared artistic motifs and techniques between the Byzantine Christians, the Sasanians, and the Umayyads, as well as in the art produced by western Christians and in later Islamic art-producing centers.
