Schrödinger equation
n
(Physics / General Physics) an equation used in wave mechanics to describe a physical system. For a particle of mass m and potential energy V it is written (ih/2π).(∂ψ/∂t) = (-h2/8π2m)#X2207;2ψ + Vψ, where i = √-1, h is the Planck constant, t the time, #X2207;2 the Laplace operator, and ψ the wave function

A chapter for those with little or no background in modern physics or quantum mechanics describes quantum concepts and wave mechanics through a simple derivation of the Schroedinger equation, the electron-in-a-box problem, and the wave functions of the hydrogen atom.
On one hand, the Schroedinger equation (governing unitary evolution of pure states) is fully deterministic.
