The Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) along with Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have jointly formulated herbal anti-oxidant supplements by using pulp of Sea-buckthorn and extracts of indigenous medicinal plants of high altitudes.
All these findings indicated the potent anti-oxidative properties of sea-buckthorn dry leaves aqueous lyophilized extract which improved on five doses administration in rats during exposure to C-H-R stress and post stress recovery.
Sea-buckthorn was used during the Cold War to boost the health of Eastern Bloc troops, while India gives its soldiers drinks made from it to help them cope with sub-zero temperatures in the Himalayas.
