The Arabic language, which also has a presence in India, belongs to the Semito-Hamitic family.
Of the two assertions, the publisher's statement seems to be the more accurate one, since the author attempts to prove that the Italian word mafia derives from a Semito-Hamitic source, that is, from the phoneme/morpheme maf, a morpheme (*maf), which he alleges to have existed since Antiquity and spread throughout the Eastern world.
