British Rail said that the crossing on the Middlesbrough to Saltburn line was now to be controlled from the Redcar signalbox and amber and red flashing lights would warn when the barriers were being lowered.
Byline: Reg Instone RE: Longford and Exhall signalbox (Pic of the Past, September 6, 2007), in answer (belatedly) to Barry Greener's enquiry, I can confirm that the signalbox was about 300 yards on the Nuneaton side of Longford and Exhall station, on the up (southbound) side of the line.
The latest incident happened on Sunday night when about 200m of copper cable was stolen from a signalbox on a private freight line near Morpeth, Northumberland.
