Saint Eu·sta·ti·us  (snt y-stshs, -sh-s)
An island of the Netherlands Antilles in the Leeward Islands of the West Indies northwest of St. Kitts. Settled originally by the French, it passed to the Dutch in 1632. During the 18th century the island was a favorite haunt of pirates and smugglers.

The second group is made up of Sint Eustatius, Saba and Sint Maarten, which are in the southeast of the Virgin Island.
Two new associated states within the Kingdom would be formed, Curacao and Sint Maarten, and Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius would become a direct part of the Netherlands as special municipalities (bijzondere gemeente); they would resemble ordinary Dutch municipalities in most ways (with a mayor, aldermen and a municipal council).
Other members are the "S Islands"--Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, and Saba.
