I read Podhoretz's account as I was working on a biography of the late editor of the Jewish Daily Forward, Abraham Cahan, who had his own awaking to anti-Semitism on the left when, in 1891, he traveled to Brussels from New York as a delegate of the United Hebrew Trades to the Second Congress of the Socialist International.
He also took part in the meetings of the Socialist International in New York, being the Organization's Vice President.
He was a guest of the Macedonian Social-Democrats as president of the Socialist International and leader of the Pan-Hellenic Socialist Movement.
