A sonar device used to detect submerged submarines that, when activated, relays information by radio. It may be active directional or nondirectional, or it may be passive directional or nondirectional.

Coyote, five feet long and with a wingspan of 30 inches, is designed to be dropped from sonobuoy launchers on the Naw's P-3C Orion antisubmarine aircraft.
The systems are similar to those developed for the French Navy NFH90 helicopters, which combine the proven Flash active dipping sonar (ADS) and TMS 2000 sonobuoy processing system.
The three foot long device was a sonobuoy - a tube carrying hydro-phones which are used to detect submarines - which fell 8,860 ft from a PC Orion as it flew over Adelaide on its way to an offshore training exercise.
