Current diagnostic testing for FSHD by southern blot may lead to indeterminate results in up to 23% of cases, as it can miss certain borderline contractions and other abnormalities.
Using the MALDI-TOF MS EpiTYPER system, we have shown that methylation analysis of the CpG sites located within FMR1 intron 1 of FREE2 (positioned 3' of the expansion) is superior to methylation-sensitive Southern blot (used in current FXS diagnostics) and FMRP immunostaining in blood as a predictor of cognitive impairment and is related to X-inactivation skewing in FM females (15, 16, 17).
Thousands of samples can now be sorted by this PCR alone without needing Southern blot or capillary electrophoresis.
As established by Pfister et al (10) and Ozden et al, (4) HPV subtypes 13 and 32 have been identified as the cause for FEH lesions through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis and Southern blot hybridization, respectively.
S1 nuclease pulsed-field gel electrophoresis and Southern blot analysis were used to identify the sizes of [bla.
Southern blot analysis was performed to establish the methylation status of the promoter region, to detect FMs that failed to amplify on PCR analysis and to differentiate females who were homozygous for a normal-sized FMR-1 allele from female PM/FM heterozygotes.
Southern, the Southern blot remains a standard molecular biology technique for determining the arrangement of DNA sequences within a vector or genome (Southern, 1975).
OGT was founded by the world-famous scientist Professor Sir Edwin Southern of Oxford University, the inventor of the Southern Blot.
Southern blot analysis was carried out to confirm the hybridization of Brevibacterium cholesterol oxidase type II oligo probe against the digested chromosomal DNA from R.
The molecular analysis should include obtaining the CGG repeat number through both polymerase chain reaction assay and Southern blot assay.
The diagnosis of B-cell lymphoid malignancy can frequently be substantiated by detecting clonal immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) gene rearrangements, which is typically done by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and/or Southern blot analysis.
