Nigerian writer known for his important contributions to the development of Nigerian theater and literature. His plays include A Dance of the Forests (1960) and A Play of Giants (1984). Soyinka won the 1986 Nobel Prize for literature.

His works include the plays The Strong Breed (1963), The Road (1965), and Kongi's Harvest (1966), the novel The Interpreters (1965), and the political essays The Burden of Memory, the Muse of Forgiveness (1999); forced into exile by the military regime (1993-98). Nobel prize for literature 1986
