The Lamprell scope of work included converting the LeTourneau 82 Class slot jack up to a Cantilever rig capable of extending the drilling envelope by 45-feet longitudinally and 12-feet transversely fabrication and installation of sponsons at the bow and stern and slot infill to increase deck space, necessitating the addition of nine pinions to the leg jacking system and extensive steel reinforcement to the hull, legs and new spud cans to support the additional weight.
Another safety feature: The HH-92's fuel is stored in crashworthy, breakaway cells located in the sponsons on both sides of the aircraft, not under the cabin floor.
To achieve modularity all vital vehicle systems are located in the front of the vehicle where there is also room for a two-person crew, sponsons are used to house the automotive subsystems, and located behind the crew compartment is space for a drop-in mission module that is identical for both wheeled and tracked variants.
