Moseley CE Primary and St Thomas Aquinas Catholic secondary in Kings Norton were among 29 schools from across the UK who achieved the Challenge Award for able, gifted and talented pupils.
St Mary and St Thomas Aquinas Primary School at Blaydon, known locally as 'Stella', has beaten hundreds of other UK schools to win the prestigious Primary School of the Year for 2006.
Born in 1972, he has lived all his life in the city's Yoker area and was educated at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School.
