Stoke-on-Trent  (stkn-trnt, -ôn-)
A borough of west-central England south of Manchester. Center of an important pottery-making industry, it also has iron and steel mills. Josiah Wedgwood and Josiah Spode lived here. Population: 259,000.

Father-of-two Christopher Deakin was found bleeding heavily in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on Friday.
Corporal Stephen Allbutt, 35, a dad of two, of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, died instantly.
The men - Daniel Tunstall, 20, Jamie Bennett, 19 and 18-year-old Gary Rodgers, all from Stoke - are alleged to have attacked Daron Hargreaves, who was found with severe head injuries in Chell Green Avenue, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, on Friday morning.
