Stoke-on-Trent  (stkn-trnt, -ôn-)
A borough of west-central England south of Manchester. Center of an important pottery-making industry, it also has iron and steel mills. Josiah Wedgwood and Josiah Spode lived here. Population: 259,000.

THE temporary head of Stoke-on-Trent City Council is to get a payment of more than pounds 65,000 on leaving his job.
Nine of the previous Fire and Rescue Authority members remain and a total of 16 new members have been nominated by Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
