ON July 10, 1951, British boxer Randolph Turpin made history by beating Sugar Ray Robinson to become middleweight champion of the world.
He has a framed portrait of ring legends Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta battling it out, which has been signed by the latter, that will be auctioned.
Born in the town in 1928, he had a hero's welcome there after beating the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson in London on July 10, 1951 to become Britain's first middleweight boxing champ for more than 60 years.
