There was "no evidence whatsoever" that the statutory compensation scheme under which shares were valued was an "opaque attempt" to make sure shareholders got nothing, Jonathan Sumption QC, for the Treasury, told the Court of Appeal in London.
Jonathan Sumption QC, for the SFO, told five Law Lords at the hearing that the agency's director made a legal and appropriate decision to stop the corruption inquiry after receiving threats from the Saudi Arabian government to withhold cooperation on critical anti-terrorism issues.
Sumption told the law lords that no discussion of the SFO inquiry was recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
