adrenocorticotropic hormone  (-drn-kôrt-k-trpk, -trpk)
A polypeptide hormone secreted by the anterior portion of the pituitary gland. It stimulates the adrenal glands to produce cortisol and other steroid hormones.

Forty eight chickens were exposed to two of four variables; injection of synthetic ACTH (adrenocorticotrophic hormone), no injection of synthetic ACTH, a control diet, or a diet that contained an additional dose of ascorbic acid (AsA).
The synthetic ACTH analog tetracosactide was added (11 nM) to stimulate ACTH-regulated enzyme activity in the slices.
