A city of central Iran south of Tehran. An ancient town and capital of Persia from 1598 to 1722, it was long noted for its fine carpets and silver filigree. Today it has textile and steel mills. Population: 1,600,000.

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA the 24-year-old French woman admitted in court that she had filed a report on the protests in the city of Isfahan to the cultural department of the French embassy in Tehran.
Ahmadinejad has announced several times in the past that Iran has the knowledge necessary to produce its own uranium oxide fuel, but with the opening of a new facility near the city of Isfahan, Tehran says it now has the capability on a large scale.
Though Tehran may be the country`s cosmopolitan capital, if you want a sense of Iran`s human soul, head to the city of Isfahan at the foot of the Zagros Mountains.
