An inverted cone-shaped space directly over the aerial towers of some forms of radio beacons in which signals are unheard or greatly reduced in volume. See also Z marker beacon.

While we’re as happy as the next person to have a New Yorker touted as a national candidate, the Mike Bloomberg who presided over New York these past several years—the mayor who cut crime, guided the city out of the post-9-11 economic crisis and modernized city government—is frankly not the best guy to sit on the porch of Number One Observatory Circle under the cone of silence imposed upon vice presidents.
They managed to have several of his articles taken off the Internet, and the cone of silence regarding his homosexuality was proving effective, if excruciating for Hunt.
For their part, the property owners, some of whom had been happy to speak publicly before Friday, decided to lower the cone of silence and also declined to comment on the talks.
