Each new tidal stream turbine, which resembles a high-tech underwater windmill, will be capable of powering about 650 homes at a cost between 5p and 8p/KWh and saving up to 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year.
Product Award * Graeme Mackie, of Overberg Ltd in North Shields, has developed the Evopod Tidal Stream Turbine, which works on a similar principle to wind turbines but harnesses the power of free-flowing tidal currents to generate environmentally friendly energy.
