After his faction (the so-called "Monetans") had taken over power in Bruges in June 1485, Willem Moreel and Jan van Nieuwenhove (son of Klaas) fled to Tournai and Arras.
In Flanders tapestry weaving centres were set up in towns such as Bruges, Tournai and Brussels producing some of the most renowned work in the history of the decorative arts.
