A road signal for directing vehicular traffic by means of colored lights, typically red for stop, green for go, and yellow for proceed with caution. Also called stoplight, traffic signal.

one of a set of coloured lights placed at crossroads, junctions, etc., to control the flow of traffic. A red light indicates that traffic must stop and a green light that it may go: usually an amber warning light is added between the red and the green

The plan to install an intersection with a traffic light signal at the National Paints roundabout has been discarded, according to a senior official at the Sharjah Directorate of Public Works.
Rhys David Barrett, 22, of Falcon Drive, Cardiff Bay, was fined pounds 45 and had three penalty points added to his driving licence after pleading guilty to breaking a red traffic light signal.
Traffic light signals will also be "rephased" - or left on green or red for longer periods of time - in order to smooth out traffic.
