The other subspecies that carries the virus, Pan troglodytes troglodytes, lives west of this region.
The European Wren Troglodytes troglodytes , the only species occurring in Europe, is known in North America as the Winter Wren to avoid confusion with the other nine species found there.
The subspecies is known as Pan troglodytes troglodytes, and the chimpanzee virus is known as SIVcpz, for simian immunodeficiency virus chimpanzee.
