The mosque is believed to be the first in Bahrain, built during the era of Umayyad Caliph Umar II.
The Dome of the Rock, the elaborately designed dome-shaped structure in its current state was built by Umayyad Caliph Abdul Malik Bin Marwan.
It was built after Islam spread to Bahrain in the 7th Century AD during the era of Umayyad Caliph Umar II, therefore it is not only deemed the first Islamic building in Bahrain, but also one of the Arabian Gulf's oldest Islamic relics.
