Aerial bursts of HE rounds with VT fuzes damaged or destroyed gun barrels, vision blocks, antennas, sights and engines and destroyed anything stored on the outside of the vehicle. The AUT mode acts as a VT fuze for the first segment of flight and a CVT fuze with a programmed height of burst for the remainder of the flight. If variable time (VT) fuzes are to be fired, the FDO must take additional steps to ensure the VT fuze does not arm before passing over the building and detonate due to reflected energy from the building. |
