Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported a significant increase in resistance to vancomycin hydrochloride, an antibiotic used to treat nosocomial (hospital) infections.
Patients are usually treated with a 10 to 14-day course of IV vancomycin hydrochloride, after which the vancomycin levels are monitored to ensure therapeutic levels.
