Gomidas Songs by Isabel Bayrakdarian (Nonesuch 075597991055 CD) [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] In the closing years of the Ottoman Empire, Gomidas Vartabed, a priest and composer, set out across his native Armenia--then a Turkish territory--to notate the music of his land.
The disc, nominated for a Grammy, was recorded three years ago when Bayrakdarian visited Armenia, and was released in time for this fall's Remembrance Concert Tour, which featured some of this material by the composer, Gomidas Vartabed.
Bayrakdarian will be waving the Armenian flag proudly when she launches her latest CD project, which focuses on the music of one of Armenia's most revered composers, Gomidas Vartabed.
