Vi·cen·za  (v-chns, v-chndzä)
A city of northeast Italy west of Venice. Founded by Ligurians c. first century b.c., it became a free city in a.d. 1164 and passed to Austria in 1797. Vicenza joined the kingdom of Italy in 1866. Population: 114,000.
