The research, carried out by YouGov on behalf of water dispenser provider Premier Watercoolers, reveals 61% of the region's working age population drink a maximum of three glasses a day.
When the international based organisations started to dilute their service levels and shed jobs, there was an industry fear that this would alienate business users away from the concept of watercoolers in the work place.
At Oasis Watercoolers plant, Ballina, Co Mayo, 40 people face the axe and 14 jobs are to go at Feldhues meat processors in Clones, Co Monaghan.
