William and Mary style

Late seventeenth-century English baroque furniture much influenced by the Dutch and Huguenot designers in the royal couple’s household. Made of walnut and with Dutch marquetry and oyster veneer. New forms were the 1690s bureau, the bookcase, the card table, and the tea table. Carved scroll supports and the baluster were popular details.
