The difference in hardness of the inner and outer dentine layers is extreme and causes the complex wear facets seen in many xenarthrans (Naples 1982, 1995).
No markedly boreal species occurred in this fauna; indeed, the climatic affinity is more neotropical as demonstrated by Sigmodon hispidus and extinct xenarthrans, Holmesina septentrionalis (extinct armadillo) and Boreostracon (glyptodon).
