Yünnan [juːˈnæn]

(Placename) a province of SW China: consists mainly of a plateau broken in the southeast by the Red and Black Rivers, with mountains in the west, rising over 5500 m (18 000 ft.); large deposits of tin, lead, zinc, and coal. Capital: Kunming. Pop.: 42 880 000 (2000 est.). Area: 436 200 sq. km (168 400 sq. miles)
