In the study of captive chimpanzees at the Yerkes National Primate Research Center (Atlanta, Georgia), researchers have suggested that this "hemispheric lateralization" for language may have its evolutionary roots in the gestural communication of our common ancestors.
Matthew Campbell and colleagues of the Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia divided 24 chimps ranging in age from nine to 43 years old into pairs.
This sense of fairness could show up in other animals that exhibit cooperative behavior, predicts Frans de Waal of Emory University's Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Atlanta.
