The initial years of teaching appear to be a particularly vulnerable period for the attrition of special education teachers (Boyer & Gillespie, 2000; Cross & Billingsley, 1994; Schlichte, Yssel & Merbler, 2005), and teachers of students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) appear to be at an increased risk for early attrition (Helge & Marrs, 1984).
