In Placido Domingo's second season as artistic director, it was the first zarzuella--that peculiarly Spanish form of opera comique-cum-Viennese operetta--in the company's history: Amadeo Vives' Dona Francisquita in a production and with a cast and conductor largely imported from Madrid's Teatro Nacional de Zarzuella and the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires.
