At the Yangshe dig, the outstanding feature is a large pit containing 48 chariots and 105 horses that were buried with a Jin ruler particularly noted for his military campaigns during the Western Zhou Dynasty (1120-781 BC).
The site was identified in October after bones and pottery dating back to the Shang Dynasty (16th to 11th century BC) and the Zhou Dynasty (11th to 3rd century BC) were discovered there, Yang said, according to the report.
Archaeologists also found Shang Dynasty funeral relics from Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province and tombs from the Northern Zhou Dynasty in Shaanxi Province.
