Ziphiidae Although they are rarely seen, approximately 7000 beaked whales were found in west coast waters--a number that exceeds that documented for baleen whales.
The beaked whales, family Ziphiidae, are the second most diverse family, with 19 species, but are also the most poorly known group because of their secretive habits.
