Zhytomyr

Zhy·to·myr or Zhi·to·mir  (zh-tômîr)
A city of west-central Ukraine west of Kiev. First mentioned in 1240, it was a way station on the trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople, and was incorporated into Russia in the late 1770s. Population: 278,000.

In 1860 when still in Zytomierz he corresponded with Kaszewski who was at the time the co-editor of Biblioteka Warszawska [Warsaw Library], a prominent literary monthly: (9) "Before I write anything original, perhaps you could publish this translation of the first legend Namaszczenie kobiety ["Anointing of a Woman;" Le Conscience] from Legende des siecles.
