Edward VIII became king of Great Britain and Ireland upon the death of his father, George V, in 1936. St. Agnes's Eve

The eve of St. Agnes's Day has long been associated with superstitions about how young girls might discover the identity of their future husbands. According to one such belief, a girl who went to bed without any supper on this night would dream of the man she was to marry. John Keats used this legend as the basis for his well-known poem, "The Eve of St. Agnes," in which a maiden dreams of her lover and wakes to find him at her bedside. Tinnitus Treatment Retrains Brain

Tinnitus, a ringing, hissing, or booming sensation in one or both ears that occurs without an external stimulus, affects as many as 40 million adults in the US, many of whom have hearing loss. There are drugs that help mask tinnitus, but the condition is incurable. Some experts believe tinnitus results from too many brain cells becoming tuned to a specific tone in the brain, so they have developed a device that is supposed to train the brain to ignore nerve signals that cause the ringing sound. In laboratory tests, the device helped eliminate the condition in rats. Human trials are expected to begin this year. More...
