Blushing

Described by Charles Darwin as "the most peculiar and the most human of all expressions," blushing is the sudden, brief reddening of the face, especially due to emotions such as embarrassment or shame. The areas of the face that turn red contain a higher concentration of blood vessels near the skin’s surface than other parts of the body. When these vessels dilate, the skin appears to redden. Black Tuesday (1929)

In the 1920s, the US stock market expanded rapidly and reached a peak in August 1929, when prices began to decline while speculation increased. On October 24, "Black Thursday," a record 12,894,650 shares were traded. Save the Rhinos, Mail Your Toenails

Rhinoceros horn is so highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine that it sells for more than gold, and this has led to an uptick in poaching, particularly in South Africa. To raise awareness and combat the problem of rhino poaching, one South African film production designer is taking a unique approach: he is sending toenail clippings to the Chinese embassy in Pretoria and encouraging others to follow suit. He chose this medium for his campaign because nails are composed of the same material as the prized rhino horn, keratin. More...
