Bebop

Bebop is a jazz style characterized by harmonic complexity, overlapping melodic lines, and frequent shifting of rhythm—which its name mimics. It emerged in the 1940s as a group of musicians—including Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Charlie Parker—rejected conventional swing to pioneer an extension of improvised jazz. A champion of airplane travel, Rogers made several long plane trips, but died in a crash with what famous aviator? More...

Remains of Last Cruise Ship Victim Likely Found

Salvage workers have recovered human remains believed to be those of the last remaining missing victim of the 2012 Costa Concordia disaster. Thirty-two people died when the cruise ship hit a reef and capsized off the Italian island of Giglio. All of the dead had been recovered in the nearly three years since, save for Russel Rebello, an Indian waiter working on the ship. DNA testing will be used to confirm that the remains are indeed those of Rebello, but those involved with the case, including the victim's family, are confident that he has finally been found.
