Iranian Pottery

A crossroads of ancient civilizations and home to some of the world's oldest human settlements, Iran has a rich and storied history. Modern-day excavations have uncovered an almost continuous record of that history in the form of pottery, which transformed stylistically as a reaction to cultural and political changes. Crossing of the Delaware (2015)

On Christmas night in 1776, General George Washington and the Continental Army crossed the Delaware River just before the Battle of Trenton. The crossing is reenacted on December 25 each year, beginning at Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, and ending on the opposite bank at Washington Crossing, New Jersey. The costumed actors who cross the river try to reproduce the scene exactly as it is depicted in the painting by Emanual Leutze: Green Mountain Boys sit in the bow, Gloucester fishermen man the oars, and General Washington stands with one foot on the gunwale. Citizen "Santas" Fulfill Kids' Wishes

The weeks leading up to Christmas are among the busiest of the year for the US Postal Service, yet for the past 100 years, postal employees have graciously taken on the additional task of sorting through the millions of letters addressed to Santa each holiday season and setting aside those that express serious need. These letters are then made available for "adoption" at participating post offices, where generous individuals, corporations, or charitable organizations can sign up to buy and ship the requested gifts courtesy of "Santa." Over the past century, Operation Santa has brought a little holiday cheer into countless homes, and it will likely continue to do so for years to come. More...
