Chives

Chives grow wild throughout most of the northern hemisphere, forming perennial clumps about 5 in (12 cm) high. Chives consist of an underground bulb, long hollow tubular leaves, and globe-shaped purple flower heads. They are the mildest and smallest member of the onion family and lack the bitterness of raw onions. Baldwin I Crowned First King of Jerusalem (1100)

The son of a French count, Baldwin joined the First Crusade and created the first Crusader state when in 1098 he gained control of Edessa, now in Turkey. In 1100, his brother Godfrey died in Jerusalem, and Baldwin was summoned by the nobles to succeed him as king of the Crusader state. He expanded the kingdom by conquering coastal cities and established an administration that served for 200 years as the basis for Frankish rule in Syria and Palestine. Clara Barton (1821)

Barton was a pioneering American nurse and humanitarian. During the American Civil War, she organized the distribution of medicine and supplies to wounded soldiers and nursed in army camps and battlefields, earning the title "Angel of the Battlefield." In Europe at the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, she began doing relief work there under the auspices of the International Red Cross. Crossing of the Delaware (2015)

On Christmas night in 1776, General George Washington and the Continental Army crossed the Delaware River just before the Battle of Trenton. The crossing is reenacted on December 25 each year, beginning at Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, and ending on the opposite bank at Washington Crossing, New Jersey. The costumed actors who cross the river try to reproduce the scene exactly as it is depicted in the painting by Emanual Leutze: Green Mountain Boys sit in the bow, Gloucester fishermen man the oars, and General Washington stands with one foot on the gunwale.
