Rumspringa

In some Amish communities, rumspringa is a period of "running around" that begins at about age 16 and ends when a youth chooses to become a full member of the church or to leave the community. Rumspringa is often portrayed in popular media as a period of sanctioned adolescent rebellion, but within the Amish community, deviation from norms is frowned upon, and the term usually simply refers to a period of greater social activity. Construction Begins on Bloodhound Supersonic Car

Construction has begun on a supersonic car designed to reach 1,000 mph (1,600 km/h) in just 45 seconds. The car, Bloodhound SSC, will be used in an attempt to break the current land speed record of 763 mph (1228 km/h) late next year. The car will be powered by a jet engine mounted above a hybrid rocket, which together will produce 21 tons of thrust. Designing a vehicle that can travel at such high speeds presents many challenges, including building wheels that can withstand rotation in excess of 10,000 revolutions per minute while at the same time being pelted with the grit that will be kicked up as the car travels.
