Dutch East India Company Established (1602)

Grand Canyon to Be Tightrope Walker's Next Challenge

Last June, aerialist Nik Wallenda captivated the public with his daring tightrope crossing of Niagara Falls. He had planned to pull off the stunt without a safety harness, but the network airing the event insisted that he wear one. This coming June, however, he will be completely untethered as he attempts to traverse the Grand Canyon—on a cable suspended 1,500 feet (457 meters) above the ground.
