 Snacking on the Rise in USMore than one quarter of the total calories that American kids consume come from snacks. Snacking has become so frequent in the US, an average of three times a day on top of the standard three meals a day, that children are trending toward constant eating. Between 1977 and 2006, children increased their caloric intake by an average of 113 calories a day, and more of these calories are coming from salty snacks and candy.
