Airglow

In Earth's upper atmosphere, ultraviolet light from the Sun ionizes atoms and dissociates molecules at heights between 40 and 200 miles (64 and 322 kilometers) above the planet's surface. When the fragments collide and recombine, some atoms and molecules are left with excess energy, which they release as light, known as airglow. After moving to Paris in 1778, Pinel, a French physician, was appointed director of the Bicêtre and Salpêtrière hospitals. His experiences there prompted him to advocate for the humane treatment of mentally ill persons—then called the insane—and for the empirical study of mental disease. He further contributed to the development of psychiatry by establishing the practice of thoroughly documenting psychiatric case histories for research. Inconfidência Week (2016)

The Inconfidência was a colonial uprising for Brazilian independence from Portugal at the end of the 18th century. It is celebrated during the week of April 21 by paying tribute to Joaquim José da Silva Xavier—also known as Tiradentes ("tooth-puller") because of his dentistry practice—who became a martyr for independence when the uprising was put down and he was executed. Manhunt for Boston Bomber Paralyzes Region

The manhunt for the lone remaining suspect from Monday's marathon bombing has entirely disrupted life in the Boston area and captivated people around the globe. On Thursday night, the two terror suspects robbed a convenience store, shot and killed a college campus police officer, hijacked a car, and got into a shootout with police that critically injured another officer and killed one of the suspects. The other suspect escaped the police dragnet, prompting a virtual lockdown of the Boston area.
